±3°C Snap-Action

Automotive Temperature Switches

Rugged snap-action thermostat switches that trip a contact at a precise temperature — for radiator fan switching, over-temperature warning and compressor cut-out. SPST / SPDT, ±3°C tolerance, 8°C differential, -40°C to +150°C, IP67. No ECU required.

Common Uses:

  • Radiator Fan Switching
  • Engine Over-Temperature Warning
  • HVAC Compressor Cut-Out

How a temperature switch works

A bimetallic disc or thermo-mechanical element flexes with temperature. When the setpoint is reached the disc snaps over centre and toggles an electrical contact — driving a fan relay, warning lamp or protection circuit directly.

Setpoint

The temperature at which the contact changes state, calibrated to ±3°C.

Differential

8°C reset differential prevents contact chatter near the setpoint.

SPST vs SPDT

Single make/break, or common + NO + NC for dual-circuit switching.

Snap action

Bimetallic or thermo-mechanical snap mechanism for fast, repeatable switching.

Where threshold switching matters

Switches are specified when the system only needs to know it has crossed a thermal limit — for fan cut-in, alarms, cut-offs and protection circuits.

Radiator Fan Switching

Closes the fan relay when coolant temperature crosses the cut-in point and opens it on cool-down — direct relay-drive without ECU.

Engine Over-Temperature Warning

Trips the dashboard warning lamp the instant coolant or oil temperature exceeds the safe threshold.

HVAC Compressor Cut-Out

High/low temperature switches protect the A/C compressor by cutting the clutch circuit outside the safe operating window.

Cooling Fan & Pump Cycling

Temperature-actuated switching to cut in/out auxiliary cooling fans and circulation pumps via deadband.

Battery Thermal Protection

Over-temperature cut-out switches for battery packs and charging circuits, opening the contactor above the safe limit.

Equipment Thermal Protection

Snap switches for motor windings, transformers and power electronics to disconnect on over-temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Engineering answers to the questions our customers ask most often.

A temperature switch opens or closes an electrical contact when temperature crosses a preset setpoint. Unlike a sensor it gives no continuous reading — it is a rugged on/off output used to trigger a warning lamp, relay or protection circuit, often without any ECU.
